Carina Hetherton (she/her) is a Clinical Intern pursuing her Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. She is a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst, and is available to work with children (7+), adolescents, adults, and couples. She offers compassionate, evidence-based care that balances structure with flexibility. With a strong background supporting neurodivergent individuals, Carina has extensive experience working with clients with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), including individuals who are newly diagnosed and navigating executive functioning challenges.
Carina integrates Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, Dialectic Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) to help clients build psychological flexibility and move toward values-driven living. Known for her creative and flexible blending of therapeutic approaches, Carina helps clients “connect the dots” between thoughts, emotions, behaviours, and life experiences in a way that feels accessible, empowering, and meaningful. Her areas of focus include anxiety, depression and low mood, self-esteem, life transitions, motivation, boundary setting, emotional regulation, stress management, social-skills development, brief solution-focused problem solving, and family systems.
Carina also supports clients in exploring meaning and purpose, seeking joy alongside growth, and developing practical strategies that translate into everyday life. Her therapeutic style is warm, collaborative, and grounded, with well-timed humour used intentionally to foster connection, ease tension, and create a relaxed and engaging therapeutic environment. Carina is approachable, playful, and genuine. She brings her happy, relaxed personality into her work while maintaining strong clinical integrity, believing that healing can be both effective and human. A self-described “champion of whimsy,” Carina values curiosity and playfulness as powerful tools for insight, resilience, and change.
When she is not immersed in academia or clinical work, Carina is an amateur bird watcher who enjoys slowing down, noticing small details, and finding joy in the natural world—values she gently encourages clients to rediscover in their own lives.
While she is fulfilling her practicum requirements, Carina will be working under the clinical supervision of Kanica Coshal, MSW, RSW. Carina’s services are being offered at a reduced rate.
